“You see the dilemma, don't you? If you don't kill me, Precogs were wrong and Precrime is over. If you do kill me, you go away, but it proves the system works. Precogs were right. So, what are you gonna do now? What's it worth? Just one more murder.”
A prototype ‘pre-cog’ ball in acrylic from Stephen Spielberg’s 2002 futuristic mystery Minority Report.
Based on a story by Philip K. Dick, Minority Report is set in Washington D.C. in 2054, where police utilise a psychic technology to arrest and convict murderers before they commit their crime. The head of this Precrime unit (Tom Cruise) finds himself accused of the future murder of a man he hasn't even met.
This instantly-recognisable prop is made from wood and sealed in plastic. The precog ball played a central role in Minority Report; each was etched with the name of a victim and a culprit when a murder was about to happen. This ball is a prototype of the one which predicts the murder of Sarah Marks (Ashley Crow) by Donald Dubin (Joel Gretsch), which can be seen when John Anderton (Tom Cruise) and his team give a demonstration of the system to Danny Witwer (Colin Farrell).
The piece has some wear from age and storage, including some scuffing and an ink mark on the acrylic. It is in an overall good condition.
